Padmanath Gohain Baruah Government Model College is a newly established higher educational institution under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Assam. The College is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and commenced its functional activities in August 2020. Located approximately 60 km from the District Headquarters of Tinsukia at Dirak-Kakopather, it is recognized as one of the premier institutions in the region for higher education. The college offers Higher Secondary and various undergraduate programs in Arts.
The year 2017 marked a significant milestone for the people of the 2 Development Blocks (viz, Kakopather and Saikhowa) of Tinsukia District, as the establishment process of PNGBGMC, Kakopather, commenced in that year. The then Hon'ble Education Minister, Government of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, laid the foundation stone on 4th Oct 2017. Successively, the College initiated its academic activities on August 1, 2020.
The main objective of the institution is to expand quality education for the healthy and all-round development of students and society. The college strives to incorporate opportunities and avenues for the holistic development of the student community. It offers extraordinary access to leading-edge opportunities for intellectual, professional, and leadership development to address the increasingly complex challenges of society.
Since its inception in 2020, the college has been fully dedicated to imparting quality education to the people of Dirak-Kakopather and the Assam-Arunachal border area. It is equipped with a well-established college library, digital classrooms featuring the latest ICT components, and provides field exposure and excursion-based learning experiences. Co-curricular opportunities further engage students in connecting theory with praxis.
From 2023, the College offers six postgraduate courses in Arts under Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University in ODL mode. The College also focuses on providing equitable and inclusive education, adhering to the National Education Policy (NEP).
